When solving problems, dig at the roots instead of just hacking at the leaves. Anthony J. D'Angelo
Let’s take a deep breath and prepare to take steps to improve your financial well-being.
When we are in a ‘money mess’, or feeling overwhelmed, it’s easy to think that everything is messed up. In reality, it’s often only one or two things that are driving that feeling of overwhelm or causing the money stress.
Identify the Root Cause of the Problem
Let’s view the situation with a new lens. What is really causing the unsettled feeling or keeping you up at night?
Did you spend too much on your car?
Does the place you live cost so much you can’t do anything else?
Are you spending too much on ‘optional’ things like eating out, new clothes, etc.
Is the cost of activities for your children a bit out of control?
That’s it for today. Can you clearly identify something?
Often there is something glaring that is the obvious problem with your finances. If that is the case we will start to identify ways to fix this one problem.
If that is not the case, that’s OK too.
We can also figure out what the root cause is by asking an even simpler question- do we have an income and spending mismatch? If the answer is yes, but you aren’t sure what’s driving the difference, we will begin to tackle that too.
